It’s essential that we have a good understanding of your business, your planned marketing strategies, your target customers, your products, product catalogue info, inventory plans, shipping and fulfilment plans and more.
We want to make sure we recommend the best software and provide an accurate estimate for the stages involved to help your launch your new website.
This can often be done over the phone, on a video call or over coffee if you prefer.
After investigating your requirements, we will come back to you with a rough estimate of how long each section will take to complete and what software you should use to achieve your requirements.
During this investigation, we will also identify if SEO can help your business and recommend incorporating SEO best practices into the build. We will provide an estimate for how long this will take on top of the standard build.
At some point after the initial discussions, you need to formally engage us. You do this by completing our online Client Engagement form.
Of course, you will only engage us if you are confident we can deliver what you want on time, within your budget and to the level of quality you want.
It’s about trust, and you need to trust us. We work hard to earn and keep your trust.
As the old saying goes, ‘it take two to tango’, and we need to trust you too. We are choosy when we take on new clients. We want to work with like-minded people who have good businesses, realistic expectations and are likely to become happy, long-term clients. One of our directors, Gareth Lane calls it the ‘beer test’.
To be successful, building a good Shopify store starts with good planning.
Some new clients come to us with very detailed plans and engage us to build their new Shopify store to their exact specifications.
Other clients want our help to plan their new Shopify website, especially in the early days of a new online business venture.
We have many years experience building hundreds of different online stores, so it makes sense to pick our brains for good ideas and advice. We can help you do what works so you avoid making costly mistakes or falling into traps.
Normally, we provide our professional advice and expert recommendations as part of our consultancy services to you.
You may just want to run through some questions in a phone call or two, or you may want to engage us to work with you in a series of planning meetings or workshops.
These planning areas could include your store design; product and catalogue layout; website navigation and information architecture; and third party integrations you might need.
The Shopify Marketplace has hundreds of additional modules you can use to add extra functionality to your basic Shopify website without needing to pay a web programmer to write code for you. Some add-on modules are free, while others have a monthly fee. We can help you define the functionality you may want and then select the best Shopify modules to use.
A word of caution though, researching available add-on modules can be very time-consuming, and some modules are poorly built. Using too many modules can get expensive for you and can also slow your site down. This is why it is often better to get us to custom-build modules for you so you get exactly what you need, and without ongoing monthly costs.
A big planning challenge for most new stores is how to prepare the content for the website and product catalogue. This also includes product data and metadata.
Good marketing plans are also vital. Some web store owners wait until their new site is launched before they think about marketing. It makes better sense to plan ahead so you include the right digital marketing options into your Shopify website as it is being built.
Planning the information architecture for your new site is an important step to work through. This involves planning the navigation menus and labels for the key sections and pages, including your product catalogue.
This also helps you plan the content you will need for each page.
If an SEO-friendly site is identified as a requirement, we will perform keyword research to help form the sitemap, features, layouts and keyword-focused URLs.
If you’re moving from an old website to a new site, we will also map out the page redirects needed from the old to the new URLs so you don’t lose any ‘love’ Google has for your old pages.
We will typically create a wireframe and design mockup for your homepage first, for both mobile and desktop.
Once you have reviewed those designs and provided feedback, we will move on to creating the designs for the internal pages and pages with unique or specific content or functionality.
If you choose to go with our Concise Shopify theme templates, this design step is effectively skipped as you can see in advance what your new site will look like based on the template you choose.
We will upload your supplied images, logos and branding elements straight into the template.
Reducing design time with one of our Shopify template themes saves time and money, and you still end up with a great website that is unique for your business.
Once all designs are checked and approved by you, the work is passed from our clever web design team to our clever web programming team.
This is the developing phase of building your website.
When it is ready, we will walk you through the backend Admin Console and show you how everything works.
This includes showing you how to upload and manage your own content for your pages and your product catalogue.
The content for your website needs to be added to create your web pages, your product catalogue and all other sections to make up your online store.
For your Shopify website, your product catalogue content includes your product descriptions, product images, product dimensions, pricing, shipping costs and plenty more.
We can help you think through what you need. We also have templates and checklists to help you.
You can supply and add all of the content, or we can create and add the content for you.
We’re happy either way, and we can do as much work or as little work on this as you wish.
We always recommend that you consider how your website content will be searched for and found within search engines such as Google.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) of content is too important to ignore, but it is time-consuming to do properly.
Your content can be optimised using on-page SEO techniques like keyword inclusion in the headings and body text, the inclusion of lists, internal and external linking and adding metadata. We’re happy to help you with this and we have many excellent SEO specialists on our team at Concise Digital.
‘Content Preparation by the client’ is often the biggest cause of delays in building new websites. If you are creating the content for your site, then you will need to provide the content in a timely and organised manner so that the website project can be delivered and launched on-time for you.
After the development is complete and the content is added, we go through the site and test each page on desktop and mobile.
It’s always good for you to get involved with testing the site as well.
We also check that all functionality is working correctly and troubleshoot any issues.
After testing, we make adjustments that may be needed before the new site is launched.
Before your new website goes live, we need to ensure we have the appropriate tracking set up.
This includes the Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Shopping Feed (if eCommerce) and Google Tag Manager.
We will advise you what needs to be set up and what we require from you in order to get the data tracking in place.
If we are migrating your website from another website or web platform, we will implement an SEO migration checklist to reduce the chance of drops in your rankings and organic traffic.
This involves tasks like implementing redirects, copying across your previous metadata, updating internal links with new URLs and much more.
When all is ready, we will make your website live.
As part of the ‘Go Live’ process, we do further testing to ensure everything is working properly across all devices.
Your website project does not stop with the launch of the site. Really, the website launch is just the start of the next stage for your online business.
We stay in touch with you and help you through any teething issues you may have.
One important area is to help you understand what is happening in your store. This is where your ‘site analytics’ provides you with vital intelligence.
A couple of weeks after your website has gone live is usually a good time to talk and explain your initial results in Google Analytics.
We can also provide suggestions on digital marketing strategies you can implement to help bring more customers to your website and grow your Shopify store.

Shopify is best suited to businesses who want to sell online, and need a fast, simple and easy eCommerce platform to set up and operate. If you want some quick answers, we’ve summarised the pros & cons below.
Generally, if you predict your business would earn under $10k in online sales per month, then Shopify is a great choice to get started.

Read MoreWhat Business Would Shopify Not Suit?
Shopify is designed for eCommerce but can work for non-e-commerce businesses. However, there may be better options available to you like WordPress.
And if you already have a massive online business, then Shopify may not be the best option for you but you never know!
Highly complex purchase options or unconventional workflows in the purchase project may mean another platform would be more suited to you, but again, the only way to find out is to talk to us and we will give you an honest appraisal of what you can achieve on various platforms and the costs involved.
What Shopify Plan Should I Choose?
The answer to this question really depends on how much revenue you plan to make from your Shopify store.
Shopify’s business model is to get you in the door at $29USD per month, however, if you rely on a third party payment gateway such as AfterPay, PayPal or similar, then you will pay an extra 2% of sales in fees. Compare this to the $79 USD per month plan where you only pay 1.0% on third parties and 0.5% of revenue on the $299 USD per month plan.
This is all in addition to the fee charged by the payment processor such as AfterPay (6%) or PayPal (2%).
If your store is selling $20,000/month in sales, this is how it plays out:
It’s best to work out how much you plan to make per month and then do the calculations above substituting your monthly revenue to see which plan is better value.
Of course, you can always start small and upgrade as you go along. That’s what most Shopify retailers do in the early days of their business.
There are some other features that you may use that are explained in the “Features” table on this page https://www.shopify.com.au/pricing. These features could also influence which plan is best for you regardless of the monthly cost.
There are alternative website platforms that do not have such high fees and we are happy to discuss these with you. Shopify is an excellent platform for the right business and right situation but the fees add up quickly in certain scenarios.
What Shopify Apps Do I Need?
The answer to this question depends on what features you need. In our initial consultation, we will ask you detailed questions about how you envision your site and how you see it working. We can then use this insight to recommend the best Shopify apps to achieve this. We can also guide you with the Shopify apps that other stores find helpful.
What Shopify Theme Is Best?
It’s difficult to give one answer since so many factors come into play. Generally, the best theme to choose is the one that converts the highest number of visitors into sales. However, there is far more at play than just the theme itself when it comes to conversion rate optimisation.
To help you decide on a theme, we are happy to show you examples of websites that convert better than others so you can decide for yourself if you like the theme.
If I Get You To Build A Custom Theme, Am I Locked into Using Concise?
Absolutely not. If you choose to move ahead with us, then you will pay us for the time taken to develop a custom Shopify theme for you, however, once the theme has been built, the theme belongs to you.
We build our Shopify themes to be easy to use, so any good Shopify developer should be able to modify the theme in future.
What's the Difference Between Shopify & Shopify Plus, and Which One Should I Choose?
While they’re both named Shopify, underneath they are vastly different platforms.
Shopify Plus is designed for enterprise-level eCommerce businesses and can handle thousands of transactions per minute. (As an example, look at JB HI-FI and Patagonia.)
Shopify Plus pricing starts at $2000USD/month and you get a lot of enterprise capabilities for your money.
If you run a large online business, Shopify Plus might be the right platform for you. Our Shopify experts can talk you through the options so you can make a fully informed decision.
Can Concise Digital Support A Shopify Store Anywhere In Australia?
Yes, in fact because Concise Digital is a Shopify partner, we can support Shopify stores built anywhere in the world.
Most of our clients are in Australia, but you can be located anywhere really.
The team of Shopify experts at Concise Digital are not just Perth web designers or Geelong web designers. We have an excellent track record of helping Shopify business clients wherever they are located across Australia.
I Built My Own Shopify, But Now I Need More Expert Help. Can Concise Help?
Yes, we work with a lot of new clients who started out building their own Shopify store as a DIY Shopify project, and along the way they realised they needed to change a few things and did not know how.
A lot of people come to us for support or advanced technical help with Shopify and we’re happy to help.
Can Concise Help Me Plan My New Shopify Store?
Yes. To be successful, building a good Shopify store starts with good planning. There is a lot to get right, and it’s easy to make mistakes if you have not done this before. (Too much “Trial and Error” gets expensive for you.)
Concise Digital has many years experience building hundreds of different online stores, so it makes sense to pick our brains for good ideas and advice.
Normally, we provide our professional advice and expert recommendations as part of our consultancy services to you.
You may just want to run through some questions in a phone call or two, or you may want to engage us to work with you in a series of planning meetings or workshops.
These planning areas could include your store design; product and catalogue layout; extra functionality for the store; marketing ideas; website navigation and information architecture; website content; and third party integrations you might need.
How Do I Choose The Best Shopify Apps In The Shopify Marketplace?
That is a very good question. It’s not easy as the Shopify Marketplace has hundreds of additional apps or add-on modules you can use to add extra functionality to your basic Shopify website without needing to pay a web programmer to write code for you.
Always look at the details of what the app does, and make sure you view the demos or examples.
The best apps have lots of users and good reviews, so check these reviews out BEFORE you select an app.
Some Shopify add-on modules are free, while others have a monthly fee.
Concise can help you define the functionality you may want and help you select the best Shopify modules to use. We have our favorite modules that we often use, but there are plenty of good modules that we don’t know about. We do charge our time for researching modules for you as part of our consultancy services. A word of caution though, this can be very a time-consuming process.
Also you need to be cautious about the quality of different modules. Some modules are poorly built and can cause conflicts when multiple modules are installed in different situations.
Using too many modules can get expensive for you and can also slow your site down. It can be better to get us to custom-build modules for you so you get exactly what you need, and without ongoing monthly costs.
Please contact us any time for help with your website, online store or digital marketing solutions. With 50+ team members across 6 time zones, we can usually respond quickly.
If you are a client of Concise and have any hosting issues, our in-house technical infrastructure support team is available for clients 24/7.
